The Trigger is a magical item featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It first appears in the twentieth episode of the second season.

After First CurseEdit

In Storybrooke, Regina longs to leave and go back to the Enchanted Forest with Henry now that she has found out about the magic beans grown in town. Teaming up with Hook, she lets him in knowledge about a secret trigger located in town that when used will obliterate Storybrooke and all the people in it. They head to where the trigger is hidden in the basement floor of the library via the elevator. As they walk through the tunnels, Regina notices Hook is wearing a bracelet that belonged to her mother, and she asks for it back. Hook relinquishes the bracelet and she places it on her wrist.

They arrive to the huge cave in which Maleficent is trapped, kept alive in any form she has by a spell that does not let her die. She explains she needed the cave protected from intruders so no one could reach the trigger by accident. Regina forces Hook to become Maleficent's bait while she looks for the trigger, which is found inside Snow White's coffin.

Tamara and Greg activate the mechanism they placed within the bracelet rendering Regina's magic useless. They kidnap her and Tamara steals the trigger from her. ("The Evil Queen")

At the dock's cannery storeroom, Tamara shows the trigger--which resembles a palm shaped black diamond gem--to Greg. Neither one knows what it is. Some time later, after Greg finds his father's body buried in their old campsite, Tamara reveals she has learned the use of the gem--it can be used to destroy Storybrooke from this world forever, which is exactly what they want to do. ("Second Star to the Right")

Greg and Tamara activate the trigger in the mines while Hook warns everyone else about it. Regina takes it upon herself to try her best to hold back the trigger for as long as she can by absorbing its power. Emma, Henry, Mary Margaret and David gather in the mines as Regina struggles to contain the trigger. Regina is frustrated she can't do more to stop it from destroying Storybrooke when Emma realizes they can disable the trigger by combining powers. She lends aid to Regina with her own magic and together they successfully deactivate it. ("And Straight On 'Til Morning")

  • The trigger's on-set replacement was a small ball on a stick.[1]
